EVA HEUGENHAUSER

This garment, displayed lying flat inside a case, is extraordinary for its concept of internalising boundaries, blurring the line between the eternal and the ephemeral.

Through fabrics treated with gelatine and glycerine, this collection comes to represent the boundary of time, where eternity is experienced in the very moment it emerges.

Redefining or, in this case, breaking down the boundaries of a garment, can be a way of finding conviction in the intangible value of one’s work. ITS Contest 2022 finalist Eva Heugenhauser has reflected critically on the concept of time and how it influences the value we place on our clothing, questioning longevity as the highest achievable value in design. What if an ephemeral moment were more precious, knowing that beauty will not last forever? Garments that seem to melt, timeless designs that vanish and must be appreciated while they last, capturing the importance of the here and now, of living in the present.

Eva currently works as a patternmaker for the renowned fashion brand On screen, Thom Browne.
